Student Residence Francisco de Orellana – rio/river Napo is an institution of young student residents of rural communities in the jurisdiction of the Amazonia districts. The district is considered to be of extreme poverty. The local government is providing assistance to qualified young children, who lack the economic means to pursue their studies. The facility located at Francisco de Orellana provides accommodation and food during the school period to a maximum of 30 students.
However, at present there have been cut backs in the transfer of resources at the disposal of National Government to local Governments. The Student Residence of Francisco de Orellana-rio Napo requires massive structural upgrades in order to ensure the safe housing of these children. STIMMA considers the housing conditions a priority!
STIMMA, with the generous support of our Canadian friends, was able to go to Orellana and give the Children’s home a facelift. New beds, mattresses, quilts, curtains, dining table and paint!! The children took great pride in their new home. They promised to clean their rooms daily and maintain the common areas. A Study Room was also built equipped with tables and chairs!
